In Mexico, mercados or markets aren’t just places to shop — they offer a feast for the senses. They’re filled with everything from luscious fruits and vegetables to colorful piñatas to hand-crafted pottery.
Just ask Jose and Catrina Mendoza. They enjoyed exploring the markets in Mexico so much that they created one of their own right here in Arkansas. In 2017, they opened El Mercado — a gem of a market that brings all the traditions and delights of an authentic Mexican market to the Searcy community, while allowing them to work together as a family.
Stop in for local, scratch-made tortillas just like abuelita (grandma) used to make, pick up some house-marinated meat for the grill, find an artisanal gift, or spice up your meals by adding Mexican ingredients to the mix.
